Those obsessed with health are not healthy; the first requisite of good health is a certain calculated carelessness about oneself.

Who is this Sydney J Harris fellow anyway? I'll tell you, shall I?

Sydney J Harris (14 September 1917–8 December 1986) was an American journalist for the Chicago Daily News and later the Chicago Sun-Times.

But I LIKE my efforts to be healthier.

Okay, maybe I AM a bit obsessed. I began to think that when, everytime I go upstairs, I do twenty steps ups on the second stair up - ten on each leading foot. And I run everywhere. And I've bought some running shorts. And trainers. And a special water bottle. And I look forward to Mondays and Wednesdays when it's running club and circuit training. And I'm thinking about entering road races.

Perhaps I should be more REGAL about it all?

Well, no time to consider that option. I'm just going to sprint down to the post box with a certain calculated carelessness as I time myself to see if I do it faster than I did it last time...

  1. I love your blog and must visit it more often. A certain calculated carelessness about oneself is the most wonderful expression, mainly because it fits the way I live. And sounds so much better than slipshod.

  2. Thanks, Meg.

Your blog, too, lights up my days.

And...every time I post about horses, I think of you...
